206 Doses of Fentanyl, a Rifle and 2 Bicycles: Mexico’s Army Itemizes What It Seized From ‘El Wicho,’ the Alleged Los Rugrats Money Man Wanted in California, in Villa Unión, Mazatlán

By The Narco Blog · October 15, 2026

Troops who arrested José Luis “N,” alias “El Wicho,” in Villa Unión, just outside Mazatlán, Sinaloa, seized a rifle, 30 cartridges, a magazine, 206 doses of fentanyl, a vehicle, two bicycles and cash, Mexico’s Defense Ministry (Defensa) said, according to Infobae in a report dated Oct. 15, 2026. When we first reported the Oct. 13 arrest, the Security Cabinet had not said what kind of drugs were found or how much. El Wicho is wanted by the U.S. federal court in the Central District of California on a cocaine charge.

What Defensa now says was seized

On Oct. 14, Milenio reported that officials had listed only “armamento, droga, numerario y un vehículo” (weapons, drugs, cash and a vehicle). Infobae’s later report, citing Defensa, lists the items: one long gun, 30 rounds, one magazine, 206 doses of fentanyl, a vehicle, two bicycles and an unstated amount of cash. Defensa told Infobae that military intelligence led to the arrest, that he was caught in the act, and that the National Guard’s rapid-reaction force and the Army carried it out with Sinaloa’s state security ministry.

The drug found in Villa Unión is not the one in the U.S. case. Defensa says he is wanted in the United States for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Quinto Poder, citing the same official report, said the DEA had also flagged him over his alleged ties to the group. No outlet has published a U.S. case number or said whether Washington has asked for his extradition.

The San Diego case against his alleged boss

Defensa says El Wicho is the financial and logistics operator of Los Rugrats and worked directly for Carlos Alberto Páez Pereda, “Carlitos Rugrats.” Mexican officials place the group in the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. Infobae gives the number of the federal indictment against Páez Pereda in San Diego as 26cr1044-DMS. The charges include narcoterrorism, material support for terrorism, continuing criminal enterprise and money-laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors allege he moved drugs from Sinaloa to Tijuana for import into the United States. Páez Pereda remains at large.

Sinaloa outlet Luz Noticias covered the arrest in this video:

El Wicho and the seized items were handed to Mexico’s federal prosecutor’s office (FGR) in Mazatlán, which is still investigating. Defensa did not say whether a judge has seen him yet. For the port city’s wider security picture, see our Mazatlán safety guide.
