60 Doses of Crystal, 4 Arrests, Then an Escape: Suchiapa, Chiapas, Police Chief Jailed, Accused of Helping a Cártel Chiapas y Guatemala Suspect Flee the Town Jail
The police chief of Suchiapa, Chiapas, a town about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from the state capital Tuxtla Gutiérrez, has been arrested and accused of helping a suspected Cártel Chiapas y Guatemala (CCyG) member escape from the municipal jail days after state police caught him with crystal meth. Chiapas Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca announced the arrest of the director of the Suchiapa Municipal Police, identified only as Jesús Antonio “N”, according to reports by El Universal, Uno TV and Infobae on Sept. 29, 2026.
A drug bust, then an escape
According to Uno TV and El Universal, state police on Sept. 25 arrested four people in the Las Brisas neighborhood of Suchiapa during an operation against street-level drug dealing. They seized 60 doses of what appeared to be crystal meth, two cell phones and a yellow 2022 TVS King Deluxe, a vehicle El Universal described as a motorcycle. Uno TV and El Heraldo de México reported that the four said they belonged to the Cártel Chiapas y Guatemala.
Instead of being moved to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the four were held in Suchiapa’s municipal jail, El Universal reported. One of them then escaped. El Universal described him as a CCyG leader and said the police director allegedly supplied vehicles for the escape. Infobae named the four people arrested as Juan José “N”, 26; Maclovio Nicolás “N”, 40; Ocario “N”, 24; and Lisset Pamela “N”, 20. It did not say which of them escaped. Vanguardia reported on Sept. 29 that all four escaped, which does not match the other outlets’ reports.
The director is being held on a charge of evasión de detenido, or allowing a detainee to escape, and has been placed before a judge, El Universal reported.
“No impunity,” prosecutor says
“We already have the vehicles that took part and the people who took part linked [to the case],” Llaven Abarca said, according to Uno TV. Investigators are working to determine whether other public officials were involved. “It is very important to set a precedent and make clear there will be no impunity, much less collusion between authorities and criminal groups,” he said, as quoted by El Universal and Infobae.
El Universal noted that the CCyG has been fighting the Sinaloa Cartel for control of Chiapas for more than five years. It said the conflict has caused mass displacement, forced disappearances, armed clashes and killings.
