‘Bolán’ Arrested in Chiapas: Oaxaca Prosecutors Say He Fired on the Juchitán Home of Elvis Guerra, the Muxe Designer Who Embroidered Sheinbaum’s Independence Day Outfit — Both Detainees Tied to ‘Los Cromos’

Oaxaca state prosecutors say they have arrested two people over the extortion of Elvis Guerra and the Sept. 18 gunfire at Guerra’s home in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca. Guerra is the muxe Zapotec designer and poet who helped embroider the outfit President Claudia Sheinbaum wore for the Sept. 15 Independence Day “Grito.” Quadratín Oaxaca and Aristegui Noticias reported on Oct. 16, 2026, that state Attorney General Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla linked both detainees to “Los Cromos,” the extortion network that Oaxaca prosecutors blame for much of the violence in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Who was arrested
According to Quadratín, the man, identified as E.B.P., alias “Bolán,” was caught in Chiapas in a joint operation with the Chiapas state prosecutor’s office. Aristegui Noticias reports that investigators identify him as the person who allegedly fired at the front of Guerra’s house. The woman, G.C.L., was arrested on Reforma street in Juchitán’s Segunda Sección, Aristegui reported. Oaxaca Capital gave their names as Edilberto B. P. and Guadalupe C. L., 30. It said a judge set a two-month deadline for the follow-up investigation. The outlet also reported, without naming its source, that a third person allegedly involved in the attack, Antonio C. L., had been killed in Juchitán by members of a criminal cell. Both detainees are presumed innocent.
What prosecutors say happened
Outlets give different details. Quadratín and Oaxaca Capital date the shooting to the night of Sept. 18, while Aristegui says Sept. 19. Quadratín reports that two people on a motorcycle fired at the house. It says that, by Guerra’s account, the extortionists demanded 200,000 pesos after Guerra opened an event hall. Aristegui cites the case file for a different figure: on May 27, 2026, a sign signed “Cromo” was left at Guerra’s home in the La Gloria neighborhood demanding a 60,000-peso transfer, under threat to Guerra and Guerra’s children.
After the attack, Guerra asked publicly for federal help. Quadratín reports that Sheinbaum offered protection and that Guerra was later received at the National Palace by Sheinbaum and Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch.

The wider Los Cromos case
The arrests add to a string of cases against Los Cromos, which Oaxaca prosecutors have described as an operating arm of the CJNG, as we have reported. Its alleged leader, Iván Sánchez Santiago, “El Cromo,” was arrested in Guadalajara this week. Juchitán’s mayor, Miguel Sánchez Altamirano, “Quetu,” has been jailed since September on extortion charges in a related investigation. Officials have previously said the mayor’s case is not tied to the attack on Guerra.
