‘No One Has Told Me Anything’: Sheinbaum Says Prosecutors Must Say if Arrested CJNG Boss ‘El Tanque’ Is Tied to Amílcar Olán, Friend of AMLO’s Son

By The Narco Blog · October 7, 2026 · Updated October 7, 2026

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, that she has not been told of any link between Iván Cazarín Molina, “El Tanque,” the alleged Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operator arrested Monday in Zapopan, Jalisco, and Tabasco businessman Jorge Amílcar Olán, a close friend of former President López Obrador’s son Andrés “Andy” López Beltrán. “No me han informado nada al respecto y en todo caso la Fiscalía General de la República tendría que informarlo si es que hay alguna relación,” she said at her morning press conference, SDP Noticias reported (“I have not been informed of anything about it, and in any case the Attorney General’s Office would have to report it if there is any relationship”).

What Sheinbaum and her finance chief said

El Financiero reported that Sheinbaum, asked about the arrest, said federal prosecutors (FGR) will have to say whether the CJNG operator has any relationship with Olán. She repeated that, according to the FGR, López Beltrán is not under investigation for fuel theft or any other business.

A day earlier Finance Secretary Édgar Amador Zamora told the Senate that Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) “en este momento no ha sido requerida por autoridades” (“at this moment has not been requested by authorities”), Forbes México reported. Amador also rejected that the UIF had sought information on a Swiss investment account reports have tied to Olán.

The suggested link traces to 2023 recordings published by Latinus in August, in which Olán’s brother, Luis Alberto Olán, says he knows “El Tanque.” Neither Olán brother nor López Beltrán has been charged with any crime; the reports reviewed include no response from them.

New details on the arrest

Infobae reported Oct. 7 that federal forces caught Cazarín Molina the night of Oct. 5 driving a gray Mercedes-Benz G 500 SUV listed in Mexico at 3,959,000 pesos after he visited his family in Zapopan. Agents photographed and filmed him that afternoon and sent the images to Mexico City to confirm his identity before moving in, Infobae said. He was handed to the FGR’s organized-crime unit (FEMDO).

Infobae also noted he was first arrested in November 2015, months after the May 1, 2015, attack on a military helicopter in Villa Purificación, Jalisco, that killed eight soldiers and a federal police officer, and left prison in September 2016 without federal authorities clearly explaining why. Officials tie him to that attack. He has not been convicted.
