A 56-year-old woman and her 36-year-old son were among four people shot dead inside a home in the Vallado Viejo neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa, on Monday night, Oct. 12, 2026, local outlets Luz Noticias and Línea Directa reported. Authorities identified the mother and son as Aurelia Lorena “N” and Joel Antonio “N.” The other man and woman killed had not been identified, Luz Noticias said.

What happened inside the blue house

According to Línea Directa, a 911 call came in at about 8:15 p.m. reporting four people wounded by gunfire on Calle Segunda at Eje Federalismo, on the edge of the Vallado Viejo and Recursos Hidráulicos neighborhoods. Luz Noticias put the attack just before 9 p.m., in a house a few meters from the exit of the underpass leading to Recursos Hidráulicos. Neighbors reported the gunshots, the outlet said.

Municipal police and Mexican Army soldiers found a one-story blue house with its front door open and four wounded people inside, Línea Directa reported. Red Cross paramedics confirmed two women and a man dead at the scene. A fourth man had a head wound. He was rushed to a hospital and died minutes after arriving, both outlets said.

Early reports said three dead

The first reports on Monday night, including Sinaloa Hoy’s, described three dead and one wounded. The toll rose to four when the hospitalized man died. Luz Noticias said no description of the attackers was obtained at the scene. No arrests or motive had been reported as of Tuesday morning. State prosecutors (Fiscalía General del Estado) collected shell casings and opened an investigation, Línea Directa reported.

A city at war since 2024

Culiacán has been the center of the fighting between rival factions of the Sinaloa Cartel since September 2024. None of the outlets cited here has linked Monday’s attack to either faction.
