Chased Into a House and Shot: Gunmen Kill a Man and Wound 2 Outside a Beer Store in Culiacán’s 5 de Febrero Neighborhood; Soldiers Arrest Armed Man

Gunmen opened fire outside a beer store in the 5 de Febrero neighborhood of east Culiacán, Sinaloa, around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, killing a man and wounding two others, according to Noroeste, Azteca Sinaloa and Línea Directa. The man who was killed had run into a nearby house to hide and died there, Noroeste reported. Security forces then arrested a man carrying a handgun near the scene.

Chased into a house on Lucio Blanco

The attack took place at a beer store on Juan de la Cabada Avenue, between Lucio Blanco and Plan de Agua Prieta streets, according to Noroeste. Azteca Sinaloa said an armed group burst in and fired at the people there. The victims scattered, and one ran into a two-story house on the corner of Lucio Blanco. Azteca Sinaloa, citing officers at the scene, reported that the gunmen followed him inside and shot him again, killing him. Línea Directa said soldiers responding to a 911 call found him wounded inside the blue house.

Noroeste identified the dead man as Alexis, 19. Azteca Sinaloa said he had not been identified as of Tuesday night. Noroeste named the two wounded men as Martín, 28, and Ignacio, 54. Azteca Sinaloa said the second wounded man was 25 to 30 years old. The outlets also gave different accounts of how the wounded were taken to hospitals.

An arrest, but his role is unclear

According to Línea Directa, relatives told authorities the alleged attacker had fled on foot toward the southwest. The search that followed ended with the arrest of a man carrying a handgun, who was to be handed over to state prosecutors. Noroeste said the man was named as the alleged shooter. Azteca Sinaloa said it had not been determined whether he was one of the attackers or simply had a gun at the time. He has not been publicly identified or charged, and he is presumed innocent.

Culiacán has been the center of fighting between Sinaloa Cartel factions since September 2024. None of the outlets linked Tuesday’s attack to a specific group or gave a motive.
