Gunmen Kill 2 Men and Wound 2 at a Brickyard in Culiacán’s Los Mezcales Neighborhood, Sinaloa

Gunmen opened fire at a brickyard in the Los Mezcales neighborhood of north Culiacán, Sinaloa, on the evening of Monday, Sept. 28, killing two men and wounding two others, according to Noroeste, Extraoficial and other Culiacán outlets. No arrests had been reported by Monday night, and authorities had not named suspects or a motive. (Los Mezcales here is a Culiacán neighborhood, not the Colima criminal group of the same name.)

What happened at the brickyard

Noroeste reported that attackers fired on the victims around 5:40 p.m. on Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado street, and that the two bodies were left at the bottom of a dirt track next to the street. Extraoficial put the first reports of gunfire at about 5:30 p.m. in the area of brick kilns on the same street, and said Mexican Army soldiers who arrived first found four people with gunshot wounds.

Mexican Red Cross paramedics confirmed two of them were dead, Extraoficial and Luz Noticias reported, and took the other two to a Culiacán hospital. Blog del Narco reported that one of the dead men was identified as Jesús Alberto, that the second remained unidentified, and that one of the wounded men was shot in a leg. Noroeste said relatives of one of the dead men came to the scene.

What is still unclear

Accounts differ on the number of wounded. Noroeste, Extraoficial, Luz Noticias and Blog del Narco reported two, while Meganoticias reported one, placing the attack near the Loma de Rodriguera area. Meganoticias said the victims’ names, ages and the condition of the wounded had not been released. Sinaloa state prosecutors and forensic teams processed the scene, the outlets said.

Culiacán has been the center of fighting between Sinaloa Cartel factions since September 2024. None of the outlets tied Monday’s attack to a specific group.
