Gunmen Riddle a Home in Culiacán’s Antonio Nakayama With Rifle Fire; Jesús Geovanni Dies Hours Later as 3 Houses Are Shot Up in an Hour
A man identified as Jesús Geovanni died in a Culiacán hospital on Monday, Sept. 28, hours after gunmen opened fire on a home in the Antonio Nakayama neighborhood of Sinaloa’s capital, according to Noroeste and Los Noticieristas. The Nakayama shooting was one of three attacks on homes in different Culiacán neighborhoods within about an hour on Sunday evening, Azteca Sinaloa reported.
What happened on Antonio del Valle Arizpe street
Noroeste reported on Sept. 27 that neighbors called in several gunshots around 7 p.m. at a home on Antonio del Valle Arizpe street, between Fernando Cuén and Francisco R. Serrano avenues, in the Barrancos area south of the city. The man was hit about three times, and a Mexican Red Cross ambulance took him to a hospital. The house was also struck by bullets. Soldiers collected about a dozen spent casings, the paper said, and the Sinaloa state prosecutor’s office took over the case.
Los Noticieristas, in a Sept. 28 report by Ernesto Martínez, said an armed group fired rifle rounds at the house around 7:30 p.m. and hit the man in the chest, an arm and a leg. It reported that he died around 10:30 a.m. Monday from complications of his wounds.

Reports differ on age and casings
The outlets give different details. Noroeste said the victim was about 33 and spelled his name Geovanni. Los Noticieristas said he was 35, spelled it Giovanni, and reported “dozens” of casings rather than about a dozen. No outlet has published his full name, and Los Noticieristas said the attackers had not been identified. Noroeste said the case is being investigated as a homicide. No official motive has been announced, and no outlet has linked the attack to any criminal group.
Three homes shot up in an hour
Azteca Sinaloa reported that homes were shot at between 6 and 7 p.m. Sunday in the Díaz Ordaz, Progreso and Nakayama neighborhoods, and that only the Nakayama attack left someone wounded. Culiacán has been the center of fighting between Sinaloa Cartel factions since September 2024.
