‘El Talibán’ Arrested in Mazatlán: Mexican Army Ties Him to the Killing of 10 Vizsla Silver Mine Workers in Concordia, Sinaloa, and 4 Missing Tourists

By The Narco Blog · October 18, 2026

Mexican troops have arrested Jesús Abraham “N,” alias “El Talibán,” in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The Defense Ministry (Defensa) links him to the kidnapping and killing of 10 workers from the Canadian miner Vizsla Silver, who were seized on Jan. 23 in Concordia, east of Mazatlán, and to the Feb. 3 kidnapping of four tourists from the State of Mexico in Mazatlán. Excélsior, Infobae, Luz Noticias and López-Dóriga Digital all reported the Defensa statement on Oct. 18, 2026.

Two raids in two days

According to the statement as quoted by Luz Noticias and Infobae, the operation began on Oct. 16 in El Rosario, south of Mazatlán. There, Army and National Guard special forces, backed by three Mexican Air Force helicopters and Sinaloa’s state police, arrested four people. Defensa says they belonged to the security detail of Óscar Luciano “N,” alias “El Casco” or “El 81,” whom it calls a regional boss of the Los Chapitos faction. One of the four is Colombian.

Defensa says intelligence from those arrests led troops to El Talibán in Mazatlán on Saturday, Oct. 17. He had weapons and a vehicle. Defensa calls him a trusted man of Juan Benito “N,” “El Beny 17,” another regional Los Chapitos boss. All five were handed to the federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Culiacán, which will decide whether to charge them. They have not been charged, and the statement does not say what role each allegedly played.

The Vizsla Silver case

The official statement names the company as “Canam/Vizsla Silver Corp.” Vizsla Silver is based in Vancouver and trades in New York and Toronto. CBC News has reported that nine of the workers were found in clandestine graves in El Verde, Concordia, in February, and that a 10th, Francisco Antonio Esparza Yáñez, was still missing as of Oct. 1. Defensa’s statement speaks of the killing of all 10. Infobae identifies El Casco as Óscar Luciano Martínez Larios. It says his brother Gabriel Nicolás, “El Gabito” or “El 80,” was arrested in June; CBC has reported that arrest was tied to the miners’ case. Excélsior reported that the four tourists remain missing.
