‘Pancho Salcido,’ Former Cattle Leader, Shot Dead Stepping Out of His Pickup in Downtown Escuinapa, South of Mazatlán, Sinaloa — His Young Daughter Beside Him Was Unhurt

Gunmen shot and killed Francisco Alberto Salcido Rivera, known as “Pancho Salcido,” a former leader of Escuinapa’s local cattle ranchers’ association, in downtown Escuinapa, Sinaloa, around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, Noroeste and Los Noticieristas reported. He had just stepped out of his pickup in front of his wife’s fruit and vegetable shop, with a young girl beside him. Escuinapa lies south of Mazatlán, and the killing came three days after the town’s Civil Protection chief was shot dead, also in the town’s center.

What happened
Noroeste said the attack happened on Severiano Moreno Street, between Francisco Pérez and Centenario, in front of a busy convenience store and a few meters from the municipal DIF family agency and its daycare. Salcido had just gotten out of his older-model pickup, whose front doors were left open, and died at the scene. Noroeste said the girl with him was his daughter and was not hurt. Infobae, citing local media, also said the minor was unharmed.
Other relatives at the shop suffered nervous breakdowns, and a woman was taken to a medical facility, according to Noroeste and Los Noticieristas. Neither outlet identified her. Both said the Red Cross was unavailable because its ambulance was out on a medical transfer.

No suspects or motive
Municipal police, the army and the National Guard cordoned off the area, and Sinaloa state prosecutors processed the scene, Infobae reported. As of Wednesday, no arrests, suspects or motive had been announced. None of the sources links the killing to any criminal group.
Escuinapa’s run of killings
Noroeste counted seven violent deaths in Escuinapa since Friday, Oct. 9, when Gov. Graciela Domínguez Nava led peace events in the town. Those deaths include two women and Civil Protection coordinator López Bibriesca, who was killed on Oct. 11. Noroeste’s new report and Infobae give his first names as Jesús Francisco. Noroeste’s Oct. 11 report, which we cited earlier, gave them as Jesús Antonio.
Infobae listed other killings of Escuinapa officials and staff this year:
- a municipal employee and teacher killed on Sept. 3;
- the deputy transit director, found dead on Aug. 31;
- the deputy public security director, killed in a March 31 ambush.
Infobae said state prosecutors are treating these cases as separate. The killings come as the Sinaloa Cartel’s internal war continues across the state.
