7 Killed in One Day in Mazatlán, Including a Man Shot at the Galerías Mall Entrance and 2 on a Soccer Field Beside an Army Base, as Sinaloa Leads Mexico With 10 of 57 Homicides

Seven of the 10 people killed in Sinaloa on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, died in Mazatlán, according to the federal Security Cabinet’s daily report as cited by Luz Noticias. Victims included a man shot at the main entrance of the Plaza Galerías mall and two men gunned down on a soccer field next to a wall of the army’s Third Military Region base. That put Sinaloa first in Mexico for the day, with 10 of 57 homicides nationwide. The State of Mexico was second with 9.

A mall, a soccer field and a canal
Luz Noticias reported that the man at Galerías, in northern Mazatlán, was shot in the chest Sunday afternoon. Shops pulled down their shutters, and his identity had not been released. El Informador, citing the SUN news agency, said gunmen on a motorcycle killed the two men at a field in the Klein neighborhood, near Avenida Juan Pablo II, and got away despite a search. One account said the victims were an uncle and nephew, but that had not been confirmed.
Luz Noticias listed the other Mazatlán deaths: a motorcyclist shot near La Urraca, a man shot in the Puesta del Sol subdivision and a man’s body found in a canal in La Riviera. The seventh victim was a woman killed in Villa Unión, which Luz Noticias said was a femicide. It described her as a retired teacher stabbed inside her home. Infobae said a woman was shot in front of the Civil Registry office there. Infobae also reported people wounded in shootings in the San Antonio, Manuel J. Clouthier and Plan de Guadalupe areas.
The rest of Sinaloa
Luz Noticias reported that a man’s body, wrapped in plastic and bound with tape, was found in Navolato. In Culiacán, a man was shot dead outside a beer store in the El Mirador neighborhood. Infobae said a second man was wounded there. NoroesteTV’s video report on the Culiacán attack:
The 10th victim was Escuinapa’s Civil Protection coordinator, killed ahead of Hurricane Simón. This time Luz Noticias placed the attack in El Roblito. The Narco Blog’s earlier report cited Noroeste placing it in the town’s Centro area.

Why Mazatlán
Infobae describes Mazatlán as the epicenter of the fighting between the Los Chapitos and Los Mayos factions of the Sinaloa Cartel. It cites state Public Security Secretary Sinuhé Téllez López as saying the conflict has shifted to the port. No arrests or motives were reported for Sunday’s killings, and authorities have not tied any specific victim to either faction.
