A Barrett .50 Rifle in a Dodge Ram Reported Stolen in the U.S.: 2 Men Who Allegedly Shot at Police Arrested After Chase in Mocorito, Sinaloa

By The Narco Blog · October 11, 2026 · Updated October 11, 2026

Two men who allegedly fired on Sinaloa state police during a chase were arrested Sunday in Mocorito, Sinaloa, in a black Dodge Ram pickup that officials say was reported stolen in the United States. They were carrying a Barrett-type .50-caliber rifle and an AK-47-type rifle, according to an Oct. 11, 2026, statement from Sinaloa’s Public Security Secretariat (SSP).

A chase from Aguapepe

The SSP said officers from the Sinaloa Special Operations Group (GOES), part of the state preventive police, were patrolling the village of Aguapepe in Mocorito when they spotted the black RAM. The occupants fled and fired at the officers, who followed them and caught up with them “several villages further on,” the statement said. Línea Directa, reporting the SSP account the same day, placed Aguapepe in the Pericos district of Mocorito. Neither source reported anyone injured.

When officers checked the truck’s legal status, they were told it had a theft report in the United States, the SSP said. The statement did not say where in the U.S. the truck was stolen or when.

What was seized

According to the SSP’s list, officers seized:

  • a Barrett-type .50-caliber rifle with 2 magazines and 20 rounds;
  • an AK-47-type 7.62x39mm rifle with 10 magazines and 290 rounds;
  • a 9mm handgun with one magazine and 15 rounds;
  • 2 tactical vests and 4 ballistic plates;
  • the Dodge RAM.

The two men, the weapons and the truck were handed to the relevant authorities for investigation, the SSP said; Línea Directa reported they went to federal prosecutors (FGR). Officials did not name the men, who have not been convicted of any crime, and did not link them to any criminal group.

Stolen U.S. trucks heading south

The arrest comes the same weekend the Los Angeles Times reported that cartels rent pickups and SUVs in the U.S. and drive them into Mexico. Sinaloa officials did not say whether this truck was rented or stolen outright, or how it crossed the border.
