Sentenced: Los Chapitos Fentanyl Lab Operator Carlos Omar Félix Gutiérrez, Who Quoted $25,000 a Kilo in New York, Gets 92 Months in Manhattan — the 6th Sentenced in the Chapitos Case

By The Narco Blog · October 11, 2026

Carlos Omar Félix Gutiérrez, the alleged Los Chapitos fentanyl lab operator who quoted a DEA informant $25,000 a kilo in New York, has been sentenced in Manhattan to 92 months, or seven years and eight months, in federal prison. That is exactly what prosecutors asked for. Milenio reported the sentence on Oct. 11, 2026. Diario de México reported on Oct. 5 that U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla of the Southern District of New York handed it down on Sept. 29 and that it was entered in the court record on Oct. 2.

What the judge ordered

Diario de México reported that the sentence also includes four years of supervised release and a $100 fine. Félix Gutiérrez gets credit for the time he has spent in custody since his arrest in Bogotá, Colombia, on March 16, 2023.

He pleaded guilty in January 2026 to conspiring to import at least 40 grams of fentanyl, Diario de México said. Milenio reported that the defense asked for 72 months, citing his plea, but the judge decided the seriousness of the crime called for 92. Our Sept. 29 report cited Infobae México as saying the defense had sought the five-year minimum.

Labs he says he started himself

Milenio reported that Félix Gutiérrez paid to set up his own fentanyl labs. It said Los Chapitos, a Sinaloa Cartel faction, then offered him “resources and protection” in exchange for a cut of the drugs, and that he told investigators the cartel supplied the chemical precursors from at least 2021 to 2023.

Sixth sentenced in the Chapitos case

Milenio said Félix Gutiérrez is the sixth defendant sentenced in the New York case. The others are Juan Pablo Lozano, “Camarón”; Julio Marín González; Sergio Duarte Frías; Ana Gabriela Rubio Zea, “Gaby”; and Francisco Mariano, “El Rayo.” All six pleaded guilty.

The case’s top defendants have not been sentenced. Milenio reported that El Chapo’s sons Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar remain free with $10 million rewards each. It also said about 10 current and former Sinaloa officials, including Gov. Rubén Rocha Moya, face U.S. arrest requests that Mexico has not carried out. Those charges are allegations only.
