2,100 Pounds of Meth in a Desert House: 3 Men From Culiacán, Sinaloa, Among 5 Arrested as Task Force Dismantles Hinkley, California, Conversion Lab

Investigators say they found about 574 pounds of methamphetamine and another 1,567 pounds of meth in liquid solution inside a house in Hinkley, California, where a large conversion lab was operating. Five people were arrested, including three men the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) lists as from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. The details come from a KCSO release reported by Bakersfield Now (KBAK) on Sept. 30, 2026, and by Crime Voice and Hoodline on Oct. 5.
A lab in a rural desert home
On Sept. 29, the Kern County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (KC-HIDTA) and KCSO served a search warrant at a home in the 19900 block of Yellowstone Road in Hinkley. They were assisted by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies from the VIPER unit and an agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Orange County office, Bakersfield Now reported. KCSO said arrests were also made in Covina, in Los Angeles County.
Because the house held large amounts of hazardous and unknown chemicals, the San Bernardino County Fire Department’s hazmat unit helped task-force lab personnel take the lab apart through the night. Besides the drugs, deputies seized three loaded firearms, two of them reported stolen in Inglewood and Manteca, and several thousand dollars in cash.

Who was arrested
Four people were arrested in the Hinkley operation. A KCSO Special Operations Group team then served an arrest warrant and a second search warrant at a home in the 600 block of P Street in Bakersfield, where a fifth person was arrested. Hoodline dates that Bakersfield warrant to Sept. 30. KCSO identified the five as:
- Alexander Lopez Garcia, 27, of Culiacán, Sinaloa
- Miguel Angel Vaal, 37, of Culiacán, Sinaloa
- Juan Daniel Castro, 24, of Culiacán, Sinaloa
- Andrea Gamino, 33, of Santa Maria, California
- Clarisel Guillen, 21, of Bakersfield (spelled “Claricel” by Hoodline)
KCSO says the five conspired to possess and manufacture methamphetamine for sale and trafficked meth in and around the Central Valley and Southern California. The other alleged offenses include maintaining a residence for narcotics sales, possessing loaded firearms while holding a controlled substance, and possession of stolen property. All were booked into the Lerdo Justice Facility. These are allegations, and none of the five has been convicted. The reports do not name any cartel or say whether the suspects have lawyers.

Second Kern County lab case in a week
The Hinkley raid came days after a separate KC-HIDTA operation. Between Sept. 23 and 28, according to Crime Voice, that operation seized about 102.8 pounds of methamphetamine, 576 pounds of meth in solution and seven firearms in Bakersfield, Delano and Earlimart, plus a lab in Los Angeles County. Four men were arrested, two of them identified as from Mexico. For a look at federal cartel cases in the state, see our California cartel overview.
