1,201 Kilos of Suspected Cocaine Under a Work Truck’s Double Floor: Troops Arrest 2 at San Luis Río Colorado Checkpoint, Across From San Luis, Arizona

By The Narco Blog · October 10, 2026 · Updated October 10, 2026

Mexican soldiers and National Guard troops found 1,201 kilos of suspected cocaine — more than 2,600 pounds — in a hidden compartment of a white Ford F-550 work truck at the Estación Doctor checkpoint in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, the Mexican border city across from San Luis, Arizona, south of Yuma. Two men in the truck were arrested, Sonora’s State Security Table (Mesa Estatal de Seguridad) said, according to Infobae, El Imparcial and Proyecto Puente on Oct. 10, 2026.

A double floor in the truck’s cargo box

Troops noticed a double bottom in the truck’s cargo box during a routine inspection and searched it more closely, Proyecto Puente and Infobae reported, citing the state security table. Inside they found packages of a white powder with the characteristics of cocaine. Officials say lab tests still have to confirm what the substance is and how much it weighs.

El Imparcial, citing the Army’s 45th Military Zone in Nogales, described “hundreds of rectangular packages” wrapped in brown tape. It said the two detained men, the driver and a passenger, were wearing work uniforms. Neither man has been named, and no outlet has reported who employed them.

What isn’t known yet

The truck, the drugs and the two men were handed to Mexico’s federal prosecutors (FGR) in San Luis Río Colorado. The reports do not say when the truck was stopped, where it was coming from or where it was going. Infobae and Proyecto Puente said authorities have not disclosed which criminal organization, if any, the shipment is tied to. The two men have not been charged in any reported filing and are presumed innocent.

Not the first big load at this checkpoint

Infobae reported that the same checkpoint was the site of a seizure of roughly 1,300 kilos of cocaine hidden in the roof of a tractor-trailer in August 2025. In September, Mexican troops stopped nearly 100 kilos of drugs, including fentanyl and opium gum, in a pickup in San Luis Río Colorado.
