Same Culiacán Corner, Second Double Killing: Gunmen Kill 2 and Wound 1 at a Late-Night Gathering in Monte Sierra, 4 Months After a Deadly Attack There
Gunmen opened fire on three men drinking outside a home in Culiacán’s Monte Sierra neighborhood at about 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, killing two and wounding the third, Sinaloa outlets Noroeste, Los Noticieristas and Línea Directa reported. It happened at Cerrada del Ajusco and Los Alpes. That is the same corner where two men were shot dead in a car on May 16, Debate reported at the time.
What happened in Monte Sierra
According to Noroeste (Sept. 27), the three men were at a social gathering in front of a house on the closed street in northern Culiacán when armed men fired on them. Noroeste and Los Noticieristas said a man identified only as Rosario died at the scene. They said the second victim, Rubén Alonso, 28, died while being treated at a hospital. Both outlets described Rubén Alonso as a native of Otatillos, in the municipality of Badiraguato.
The details are not consistent across outlets. Línea Directa said Rubén died at the scene and was from Navolato. Luz Noticias gave Rosario’s surname as Alonso. The third man was hospitalized. His identity and condition have not been reported.
Los Noticieristas reported that the Mexican Army and state police responded after calls from residents. The Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) has opened an investigation. No arrests, motive or suspected group had been reported as of Sunday morning.
The May attack at the same intersection
Debate reported on May 16, 2026, that gunmen intercepted a white Nissan March on Ajusco at Los Alpes. They killed Bryan Eleazar, 24, at the scene, and Hermenegildo died after arriving at a hospital. Investigators found large-caliber shell casings, according to that report. No link between the two attacks has been reported.
A violent weekend in Sinaloa
The Monte Sierra shooting came after a bloody Saturday elsewhere in the state. Quadratín Sinaloa reported on Sept. 26 that in Mazatlán, a woman identified as Karla Patricia was shot dead on Calle Roberto Astorga in the Ejidal neighborhood, where another person was wounded. It also reported that the bound body of a man of about 25 was found on Libramiento 2. That weekend began with seven killings statewide, including the attacks on a Rafael Buelna party hall and a rehab center in Culiacán. Sinaloa has been hit by violence since the Sinaloa Cartel’s internal war began in September 2024.
