Wanted on 11 Murder Warrants: Alleged Cell Boss ‘La Goma’ Shot in the Ankle as Police Break Up Michoacán Extortion Crew Preying on Avocado Growers
Michoacán state police arrested a man wanted on 12 outstanding arrest warrants — 11 of them for aggravated homicide — along with four other alleged members of a criminal cell called “La Venada” in Jacona, according to reports published September 23, 2026, by Quadratín Michoacán and La Voz de Michoacán. The suspect, Luis Armando “N,” alias “La Goma,” was shot in the ankle during the arrest, both outlets reported.
A struggle and a gunshot wound
The operation was carried out in the Nuevo Porvenir neighborhood of Jacona by the state Public Security Secretariat (SSP) in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Quadratín reported. Authorities described “La Goma” as a priority target of the cell. His warrants include 11 for homicidio calificado (aggravated homicide) and one for aggravated kidnapping.
According to the official account relayed by Quadratín, he allegedly tried to disarm one of the officers and, after a struggle, suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle. He received medical attention and was reported in stable condition under guard in a hospital. That account comes from authorities and has not been independently verified.
Four others and a teenager detained
Also arrested were Julio “N,” Rigoberto “N,” Sergio “N” and José “N,” identified as possible members of La Venada. La Voz de Michoacán reported that some of them had prior records for aggravated homicide and drug trafficking. Police said they seized 25 small bags of a substance resembling methamphetamine, weighing about 17 grams in total.
An adolescent was also detained carrying two .40-caliber cartridges and was referred to juvenile justice authorities, with the minor’s identity protected, according to both outlets.
Extortion of avocado and berry growers
Authorities said La Venada is linked to the Cártel de Los Reyes and operates mainly in the Uruapan region, with activity in Zamora and Jacona. Its members are being investigated for allegedly extorting and collecting illegal “quotas” from producers and businesses in the avocado, berry, agricultural and livestock sectors, and some for allegedly distributing drugs in Zamora, Quadratín reported.
These are allegations by state authorities. Neither outlet reported whether the five men have been formally charged in connection with the Jacona arrests, and none has been convicted.
